July was a bit of a wash out weather-wise but at least the mashup scene could be relied on for some rays of sunshine. Here’s my pick of the mashups that rang my bell this past month.
The latest video for the David Lynch mashup album, Mashed in Plastic, is a dark and violent affair and is most definitely for over 18s only. If you haven’t yet picked up the track as part of the Mashed in Plastic album, you can now get it here too:
In between all the other projects I’ve been working on this year, I’ve also been putting together an album of mashups featuring songs from the Britpop era. Britpop Rebooted is still a few months off completion but to give you a taste of what’s to come, here are a couple of the finished tracks from the album.
The Reborn Identity - Spirit World - Radiohead - Street Spirit (Fade Out)
- Morcheeba ft Manda - Gained the World
- Digitalism - Taken Away
- Eliza Lumley - Street Spirit (Fade Out)
G3RSt - Something Stupid This Way Comes
Barry Adamson - Something Wicked This Way Comes (from Lost Highway)
Garbage - Stupid Girl
In the latest video for the David Lynch mashup album Mashed in Plastic, G3RSt takes us into the dark and confusing world of Lost Highway… “We’ve met before, haven’t we?”
The summer has kicked in with intent and brought with it a teeming swarm of mashups and compilations. There’s been quite a harvest of tracks to sift through this month, but that means you can be certain only the very best mashups have made it into this month’s RE:boots.
An interview I did for the Some Assembly Required podcast and radio show is online now at the Some Assembly Required blog. If you’re interested in finding out a bit more about The Reborn Identity - how I work, my inspiration and motivations - then go check it out.
SAR’s Jon Nelson has been really supportive of Mashed in Plastic, and the latest episode of the podcast (show 234) features my track Lauren’s Opus. Many thanks, Jon, for all the exposure.
RemoteTreeChildren is an ambient electronic partnership between singer-songwriter Glen Phillips and producer John Askew, and takes the former Toad the Wet Sprocket singer’s music further away from his rock and folksy roots into deep, dark electro territory. The RemoteTreeChildren album, Veteran of the Loudness Wars, is available for free download (or whatever you want to pay for it) here - go check it out.
There are several outstanding tracks on the album, including the unignorable ”World of Warcraft disco” of You Will Be Pwned and the brooding, strutting love song, Blood Pressurize. It’s the latter I’ve tackled here, cranking up the tempo and recasting it as an even more intense electro track. If anyone fancies remixing the track themselves, you can pick up the stems here.
