Saturday, June 28th, 2008

As promised last time around, the Reborn Identity round-up of the year’s best mashups is now going monthly. Whittling down the amazing tracks released in June to just 10 has been tricky to say the least, especially given the incredibly varied mix of bootlegs on offer this month, but after much deliberation here they are…

3. Beloki - Imperial Stress
4. Kro - Punklover
5. G3rst - Kenny’s Last Rhythm

The Reborn Identity on the Anti-Hit List

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

John Sakamoto of the Toronto Star produces a weekly column called The Anti-Hit List, which picks out his top 10 favourite non-hit songs of the week - often including the odd mashup. Scrolling through his latest columns, I was stunned to see a Reborn Identity track make an appearance:

3. THE TING TINGS VS. GARBAGE VS. BLACK EYED PEAS

“Shut Your Mouth and Let Me Go”

A.k.a. that insanely catchy song in the new iPod commercial, The Ting Tings’ “Shut Up and Let Me Go” gets the mash-up treatment with a couple of similarly pushy songs: Garbage’s “Shut Your Mouth” and the Black Eyed Peas’ “Shut Up.” Those ingredients recalibrate the song’s prime influence (though not its timeframe) away from the cheerleader shriek of Toni Basil’s “Mickey” to something closer to the sleek rumble of Blondie’s “Rapture.”

For the full top 10 head over here. Thanks for the exposure, John!

The Mashup Bootleg Series: Madonna

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

The Mashup Bootleg Series is a new site from Mashup Facts that brings together compilations of mashups featuring a specific artist.

The first album in the series is all about Madonna, and features the Reborn Identity track 4 Minute Miracles. It’s joined by a selection of excellent tracks by some well-known names on the bootleg scene. Fans of her Madgesty can check it out here

If Madonna’s not your cup of tea, the second album in the series is Duran Duran. Head over to The Mashup Bootleg Series site for more info.
