Best mashups of 2008 - Part 3
It’s time for the third installment of my favourite mashups of the year, and this will be the last six-weekly roundup. From now on I’ll be picking out the best tracks each month, to help bring you even more of the best bootlegs available.
1. Go Home Productions - Spliced Krispies
2. Instamatic - Neon Sex People
3. Eamezey - Krawl & Apologize
4. DJ Schmolli - M.I.A Wanted Dead or Alive
5. Bobby Martini - Oh My God It’s a Genie In a Bottle
6. mARKYbOY - A Clown’s Perspective
7. MadMixMustang - The Love Cat Shack
8. Colatron - American Finale
9. DJ ShyBoy - You Spin Me Upside Down
10. Icky - 4 Minute to Say Yeah and Bring the Noise
1. Go Home Productions - Spliced Krispies
An 11-track album crammed with a fine selection of bootlegs from the master, Mark Vidler. Personal favourites include the inspired Luther’s Orange Crush, the dreamy Main Bloom and the truly daft Grandstand Supreme. Download them all!
2. Instamatic - Neon Sex People
~ Neon Neon - I Lust U
~ Depeche Mode - People Are People
~ Latour - People Are Still Having Sex
Some of my favourite mashups are those that have introduced me to new music. This turned me into an instant Neon Neon fan - thanks, Instamatic!
3. Eamezey - Krawl & Apologize
~ OneRepublic - Apologize
~ Linkin Park ft Aaron Lewis - Krwlng
Not only is this is a perfect pairing but it finally prompted me to listen to Linkin Park’s Reanimation album, which I’ve had tucked away in a dusty corner for years.
4. DJ Schmolli - M.I.A Wanted Dead or Alive
~ Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead or Alive
~ M.I.A. - Paper Planes
It’s been hard picking out just one DJ Schmolli track for this list. M.I.A. Wanted Dead or Alive is the sun-soaked choice, but for late night partying, I’d have to opt for Turbonelly (Turbonegro v Nelly Furtado), which is not to be missed.
5. Bobby Martini - Oh My God It’s a Genie In a Bottle
~ Mark Ronson - Oh My God
~ Christina Aguilera - Genie In A Bottle
It’s a remarkable show of skill to take a vocal so widely used as Xtina’s Genie In A Bottle and give it a fresh feel. This track just goes to underline what a true master Bobby Martini really is.
6. mARKYbOY - A Clown’s Perspective
~ DB Boulevard - A Different Point of View
~ Smokey Robinson - Tears of a Clown
I may be a little biased here, having recently done a Smokey mash myself, but this is a great fit and makes for a fantastic summer dance track.
7. MadMixMustang - The Love Cat Shack
~ The B-52’s - Love Shack
~ Stray Kats- Stray Kat Strut
There are so many versions of Love Shack out there that it takes something special to stand out. M3 has done just that, giving the track a jazz bar swing to it that works amazingly well. Do check out some of his other recent mashups too - Moving Undercover and I Want Your Fascination are both great too.
8. Colatron - American Finale
~ Estelle - American Boy
~ CeCe Peniston - Finally (with a dash of Ludacris)
Again, Finally has been used a hell of a lot by mashup producers but with good reason - it’s a killer vocal. Colatron’s take ranks up there with the best and makes great use of Estelle’s American Boy.
9. DJ ShyBoy - You Spin Me Upside Down
~ Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)
~ Diana Ross - Upside Down
Two perfect slices of ’80s pop and cut together to create the finest in dancefloor battenburg.
10. Icky - 4 Minute to Say Yeah and Bring the Noise
~ Madonna & Justin - 4 Minutes
~ Usher - Yeah
~ Public Enemy - Bring the Noise
There are tons of 4 Minutes bootlegs doing the rounds but Icky’s take really stands out.

I can’t vouch for anyone else, but it’s certainly one of my favourite bootlegs of the year thus far. The video’s great too - I’ve already checked it out and commented
If anyone fancies a look you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CX_rMileIQ

Hi mARKY. I’m glad your friends twisted your arm and got you to release this track early. It’s been perfect for the patch of summer we’ve been enjoying round this neck of the woods. I’ll certainly keep my eyes peeled for your project.
