I’ve barely caught a breath since New Year but here we are in February already - how did that happen? I’ll hopefully have some new Reborn Identity material up here very soon, but in the meantime, here’s a feast for your ears in the form of January’s best mashups…
The Reborn Identity - Crowded World - Crowded House - Don’t Dream It’s Over
- Take That - Rule The World
I delved back into the Reborn Identity archive for this latest video. Originally released just before Christmas 2008, Crowded World is one of those mashups that always brings a smile to my face, so it’s about time it got the video treatment.
Given that Take That’s Rule The World was itself from a movie, it would have made sense to use Stardust for this video. Never one to do the obvious, I used Terry Gilliam’s Brazil for inspiration instead, which fits the lyrics and era of Crowded House’s Don’t Dream It’s Over to a tee.
Throughout 2009, I compiled my totally biased and subjective round-up of each month’s best mashups in my RE:boots top 10s. Now that the year has drawn to end and a new one begun in earnest, it’s only right that I put together my equally subjective view of the year’s best tracks and mashup albums.
As a special treat this year, I’ve gathered together all the individual mashups in the top 10 into a single download for those who’d like to grab them all at once. Do make sure you visit the producers’ sites too to hear all the other treats they have in store for you.
The Reborn Identity - I’m Not Your Counterpoint - La Roux - I’m Not Your Toy
- Delphic - Counterpoint
While I’m in video mode, here’s a clip I’ve put together for the latest Reborn Identity mashup. You’ve got to love the thumbnails that come up for some videos!
The Reborn Identity - I’m Not Your Counterpoint - La Roux - I’m Not Your Toy
- Delphic - Counterpoint
Looking back over all the mashups I’ve released this year, they’ve been a pretty melancholy lot. What I need to end the year then is something to juxtapose all that moodiness - a counterpoint, perhaps. Well this uptempo electro mash is certainly not moody - in fact, it’s probably the most euphoric thing I’ve done.
I’m Not Your Counterpoint is a celebration of one of my obsessions this year (it’s my third La Roux track) with a band who look set to be one of my obsessions of the New Year, Delphic. It may not be much of a genre clash - heck, they even toured together this year - but I hope you like it nonetheless.
This year is melting away like a snowman in the midday sun but somewhere amidst the racing days, the producers of the mashup world have found time to put together some real gems this past month. Here are my favourites for November.
The Reborn Identity - Ain’t Sex Peculiar
- Kings of Leon - Sex On Fire
- Marvin Gaye - Ain’t That Peculiar
After quite a while away from the audio studio I’m beginning to get back into the groove, not that I seem to have much time for it right now. Kings of Leon’s Sex On Fire is one of my standout songs of the year, and works really nicely with my old favourite, Marvin Gaye. This was just a quickie but I hope you enjoy it.
